Bags and bins at curbside for pick up in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia.  In 2008, the town introduced new regulations whereby only one non-transparent bag of garbage could be put at curbside.  Additional garbage is put in clear bags (with recycling in blue transparent bags).  Other municipalities in Nova Scotia saw a increase in recycling and composting when limits were placed on the number of non-transparent bags permitted at curbside.

Empty recycling bins at curbside in Waterloo, Ontario.  Blue bin recycling originated in neighbouring Kitchener, Ontario in 1981, with city-wide implementation by 1984.  At that time, participation rates were about 85%.

Out of site out of mind? Or, protection from the elements? Or, dumpster-divers?

Benches with Bins

As good a place as any? Easy to locate a bin beside a bench. Convenient to toss something into. Too convenient? Attractive to sit beside trash? At bus stops and in gardens these two objects are often paired.

Dumpster with a view

One of my favourite dumpster locations. Spormaggiore, Italy with a view of the valley, the mountains grape vines and apple fields.

Keji

At Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site. How many different kinds of bins can be found in one park?
