See-through

I have been seeing a lot more clear/see-through bins at train stations/airports. . . simply frugal or for fear of what could be placed inside?

In the Camargue

Bins on the side of the road between Arles and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

Dressed for the occasion

During the "Misteri de na volta con arent en bon magnar". Traditional food was served on compostable plates and the bins were dressed up in burlap sacs, wood and straw to look like part of the festival. There is a picture of a pig under the sign for the metal bucket, letting you know that your food scraps will be going to the livestock.

Sanitation Equipment

It's a wild, wild world of waste out there. According to the World Bank, the average waste produced per person per day is about 1.2kg (of course, they caution that global estimates vary widely - more on that here). In any case, it means that a lot of waste going from place to place. 'Sanitation' is the name of the game and somehow it's all in a day's work - removed from sight (unless of course, we're lucky enough to realize how important these services are to our modern lives). But apparently I'm nowhere near the only one taking pictures of the process...
